Upcoming KTPAA Events

The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proudly presents " Korea 21: Music Here and Now ," in collaboration with the Gugak FM in Seoul and the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Association of New York (KTPAA). This rare concert will focus on new Korean traditional music and its modern performance aspects, changjak gugak , the newly emerging artistic phenomenon in the traditional musical field. A highlight of this event will be the select group of emerging Korean traditional musicians who ranked in the top ten of the 2007, "21C Korean Music Project Competition," one of the most prestigious new music competitions in South Korea.  Artists such as Bulsaechul, Irene, and Project "Rock" will present a contemporary interpretation of sinawi (an improvised Korean traditional music) and hybrid pieces that blend Korean traditional musical instruments and Western instruments. Included in the program are special guests, Yoon-Jeong Heo, a renowned geomungo player and recipient of the 2007-8 Asian Cultural Council Fellowship and Sue Yeon Park, a designated Master of Korean dance traditions by the State of New York.
